How To Connect Convertkit With WordPress

0

One of the most frustrating things in the online world is getting two pieces of software to work seamlessly together, thankfully this is not the case when we try to integrate Convertkit with WordPress.

How To Connect WordPress To ConvertKit With The Plugin

Before we can do anything else, we need to make sure that we have convertkit and WordPress talking to each other.

The easiest way to do this is by using the convertkit plugin for WordPress.

Find The Plugin

Like with most WordPress plans, you can choose either of the two basic installation methods.

The Download and Upload Method

You can follow this link here to download the plugin and then upload (which we will show below) it or you can use the search and find method (the process is much more simple)

The Search and Find Method

If you’ve chosen to use the search and find method, the first thing he’ll need to do is log into the back end of your website.

This is typically done by going to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin and typing in your username and password.

Once you’ve logged in,  you will see the main dashboard and we’ll need to move your mouse to the left hand side of the screen to the plugins section.

If you hover over the plugins section you will see a menu come up that includes three or four different options

When you see the plug-in menu open, go ahead and click on the “ add new”  section.  This Will take you to the add plugins screen, where you’re going to look in the upper right for a little section called “search plugins.”

Inside of the search bar, all you need to do is type in the word convertkit and hit enter on your keyboard. Doing this will search  the entire WordPress database for any plugins that contain the keyword convertkit.

In this case, the plug-in that we are looking for is simply titled convertkit by convertkit.

Install The Plugin

Once you’ve found the plug-in, either by downloading it or searching the WordPress database, it’s time to install the plugin.

The Download and Upload Method

If you downloaded the plug-in, in order to install it inside of WordPress you’ll need to go to the plugins section inside of your dashboard and click “add new”.

Then at the top of the page, click the “Upload Plugin” button. This will open up the plug-in upload window within your dashboard. Click on the choose file button and select the entire zip file for the plugin ( it’s important to note that if you had previously opened the zip file and tried to upload individual elements of the plug-in, that it will not work).

Once you have uploaded the file, the install now button will become clickable and you need to click it.

The Search and Find Method

If you use the search and find method to locate the convertkit plug-in, all you will need to do is click the install button, once you are located using the steps we laid out above.

Activate the Plugin

Once you have successfully installed the plug-in, we need to actually activate it before we can do anything with it.

The Download and Upload Method

If you chose to use the download and upload method,  you will need to return to the main plug in screen by clicking on the plugins tab in your dashboard.

Once there, you’re going to want to select the installed plugins option and you can either use the search feature to locate the convertkit Plug-In or simply scroll down your plugins list until you see it.

Once you’ve located the convert plug-in you should see two options: one to activate the plug-in and the other to delete the plugin.

Obviously, since we’re trying to activate the plug-in that’s the option that we’re going to select.

The Search and Find Method

Just like with installation, activation is much more simple with the search and find method.  After you successfully install the plug-in, the only thing you need to do is wait a few seconds and you will see a new button up here called activate. Once this button is clickable go ahead and click it and that will activate the plugin for you.

Connect The Plugin

Once our plug-in is installed and activated we do need to take the additional step of actually connecting it to our convertkit account.

To take this final step, we will need to open up both the settings menu inside ( located along the left hand side)  and we will need to be logged into our convertkit account.

Find Convertkit Settings in WordPress

If you click on the settings option inside of your wordpress dashboard And you have already successfully installed and activated your convertkit plug-in, you will see a convertkit option inside of the settings menu.

If you click on that option, it will open up the main Convertkit setting screen inside of WordPress.

Once You’ve reached this point,  you’re going to want to open a new tab in your browser and log into your convertkit account.

Get Your API Key

In order to get the API key to officially integrate your convert account with your WordPress website, you need to be logged into your account.

After you’ve logged in, you can either click this link or you can click on your account settings inside of the convertkit main menu.  This can easily be accessed by clicking on the account name in the upper right hand corner.

Once inside of the account settings menu, you’re going to look for the section labeled API key and API Secret.

After you find this section,  you will need to copy and paste the API key from convertkit into the API key section inside of plug in settings.

Repeat the same process for the secret API key taking it from convertkit and pasting into the WordPress plugin settings.

After you’ve entered both keys into their respective fields in the WordPress backend, go ahead and press the save changes button at the bottom of the plug-in settings page and you’re done

Test The Connection

After you successfully completed the integration, one step I suggest to virtually everybody that I talk to is to test the connection.

in order to do this, all you need to do is wait a few minutes and then click on the section inside of the plug-in setting menu labeled “ default form posts and pages”.

Any forms you have created inside of convertkit should show up inside of this drop down menu ( assuming you successfully completed integration).

If for some reason you don’t see any forms here and you have created forms in the past inside of convertkit, click the refresh forms button underneath the drop-down menu and wait a few more minutes to see if they appear.

Once you see your form showing up in this drop down menu, you know that your integration is complete.  If for some reason after using the refresh forms trick you still don’t see any forms showing up the drop-down menu double-check that you copied and pasted your API Keys correctly.
